Rubber Stamps : 10 Great Tips For Making Multiple Cards

the corner, that big project at work is eating all of your free time. How will
you ever make those handmade cards for the big party, or mail the invitations
for the guests at the big wedding? What started out as a great idea for some
very special cards has turned into a stressful project. These ten simple steps
will maximize your time and free up your creativity when making multiple cards
for any size project. 1. Determine and plan your cardmaking schedule. Do you want to set aside a
few hours or just 30 minutes at a time? Pick a design suitable for the available
time. Make a simple "assembly line" schedule to maximize the time you have to
spend on the project. 2. Work on individual elements, individually. It may sound silly, but working
on one element of the cards will retain the "look" of the cards while creating a
"unity" among them. Start by stamping all of the impressions, then work on
cutting out all of the backgrounds, folding all of the paper, tearing all of the
sheets simultaneously. You don't want to spend too much time on any one card. 3. Have a party! Kids and relatives love to involved. Make the work fun and
don't be overly concerned about the smaller details of the project. You will
ultimately put all of the individual components together, giving you plenty of
time to add any special touches. Working together with other people will also
add a new level of uniqueness to your cards. 4. Stop writing. One of the most frustrating tasks of mass producing cards is
hand writing messages. Find "handwriting fonts" available online, at your
nearest craft supply store, or your local computer store. Sign the finished card
or pen in any details or RSVP information as you would with a store purchased
card. 5. Use a paper trimmer. If you need a fast way to make background frames or
trim down embellishments, scissors just won't cut it! Stacking paper in 5-10
sheet groups and trimming all at once will provide perfect multiple shapes.
Often, your scraps can be stacked in such a way to trim them into useable pieces
with a trimmer. Rotary trimmers will also allow you to add perfect "scalloped"
edges to the base of the card(s). 6. Punch It. Remember your time is valuable. Whether it's a heart, circle,
flower, even a fork and spoon, your local craft store will have a perfect punch
for the card. Cutting out shapes by hand is tedious and rarely looks well.
Circles can be particularly difficult. 7. Stamp, Stamp, Stamp. When placing stamped images on a card, use one stamp
at a time and make as many impressions as needed. Don't clean stamps or switch
colors until all of the cards have been stamped. This keeps your ink pads from
becoming "mixed" and makes the impressions uniform. 8. Avoid difficult embellishments. I am sure that rows of bows, lines of
brads, or glued dots would look wonderful on each card. Finding a simpler
alternative will save you hours. Paper tears, taped bows, even stylish stickers
can be just as attractive without the hours of difficult handy work. 9. Customize backgrounds. If you absolutely must have a "look" provided by a
stamped background, make a "master" copy on white paper EXACTLY how it should
look. Scan the paper design into a computer at 300 dpi. (If you're already
confused, spend a minute with the scanner manual.) Print onto colored cardstock
or paper. When done properly, no one will even notice! 10. Have funwith a budget. These are the two biggest factors when mass

A Look at the Different Depression and Anxiety Medications
By Charles Donovan While it may be easy to recite the various brand names and generalize their benefits enough to know they put us (or are supposed to put us) in a better mood, for lack of a better term, the drugs themselves can all be categorized individually, each working in a slightly different way. The following is a list and very brief description, by category, of depression and anxiety medications currently prescribed by physicians. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) SSRIs, which are fairly new to the arsenal of depression and anxiety medications, have gained immense popularity among prescribing psychiatrists within the past 10 years. They are usually prescribed during the early stages of depression, if a person has sought help and behavioral and/or psychotherapy has not proven effective enough. With appropriate dosage, SSRIs can "catch" depression before it becomes severe. Although they do not work for 20% to 40% of people who try them, their ability to work for people with minor (and even major) depressive illnesses makes them attractive enough to prescribing psychiatrists to try them first before moving on to more serious depression and anxiety medications and methods, if need be. SSRIs work on serotonin, one of the brain's three neurotransmitters. SSRIs Brand name (chemical name) Celexa (citalopram), Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate), Luvox (fluvoxamine), Paxil (paroxetine), Prozac (fluoxetine), Zoloft (sertraline) Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MOAIs) MAOIs are the type of depression and anxiety medications that work for people who are mildly depressed, develop mild depression over a long period of time, are overly sensitive to their environment, or who are easily able to emerge from periods of depression. People who demonstrate an excess of a particular activity (ie, overeating, oversleeping, emotional overreaction) as compensation with stress can benefit from MAOIs, which work on the three neurotransmitters (called monoamines) found in the brain: norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine. These are usually only prescribed when a person hasn't responded to any of the other types of depression and anxiety medications. A strict diet must be followed if taking an MAOI, because in conjunction with certain foods, the body can react with elevated blood pressure, headaches, fluctuating blood sugar (for people with diabetes), and in more severe cases, brain hemorrhage. Because of these risks, MAOIs were taken off the American market for a while, but were reintroduced for patients who haven't had luck with any other depression and anxiety medications. MAOIs Brand name (chemical name) Nardil (phenelzine), Parnate (tranylcypromine) Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCAs) Tricyclics have been available longer than any other depression and anxiety medications. In 1958, the first tricyclic, imipramine (Tofranil), was released to help combat major depression, and physicians saw a 70% positive response within their patients. Previously the only treatments for severely depressed patients were amphetamines and electroshock therapy. TCAs increase the brain's supply of serotonin and norepinephrine, two of the brain's three neurotransmitters, but it also affects some of the brain's other nerve impulses as well, and this allows for more side effects. Severely depressed and/or hospitalized patients see the most benefit from taking TCAs because of its sedative effect. In the past, patients were usually prescribed tricyclics before anything else, but with the movement of psychiatrists (and patients!) toward heading off depression before it becomes severe and/or chronic, TCAs are now usually only prescribed if the other types of depression and anxiety medications don't work. TCAs Brand name (chemical name) Adapin (doxepin), Anafranil (clomipramine) , Elavil (amitriptyline), Endep (amitriptyline), Ludiomil (maprotiline), Norpramin (desipramine) , Pamelor (nortryptyline), Pertofrane (desipramine), Sinequan (doxepin), Surmontil (trimipramine), Tofranil (imipramine), Vivactil (protriptyline) Non-specified or "Other" depression and anxiety medications

In clinical studies, researchers attribute the medication's effect on a broad spectrum of depression symptoms, which include emotional and painful physical symptoms as well as anxiety, to its dual reuptake inhibition of both serotonin and norepinephrine.

The Island (Or Making A Chair From A Tree Without Electricity Or Machine Tools - Part 2)
By Allan Fyfe The Island is the land that accompanies Lethenty Mill. It stretches from its widest part at the Mill to its narrowest about half a mile up the Lochter Burn. It used to be very important to the Mill; water was collected in a long narrow channel leading to a dam near the Mill, and it could be released into a variety of channels under and around the Mill which were arranged to feed the water to the two water wheels or back into the water course (the Lochter) if the system was full and liable to overflow. Several pages of the title deeds of 1886 spell out the mill-owners responsibility to open the sluices when flooding was imminent and there was a risk of neighbouring fields being inundated.

When I bought the Mill in 1983 the mill wheels were long gone, the water channels had been removed or filled up and the dam and its channel had been filled with hundreds of tons of builders rubble and debris. The Victorian system for providing water power was unrecognisable and the swans and cats had moved on long ago.
Changes had been made in the century after 1886 - I suppose the Mill became busier and the dependence on water power from the Lochter became more critical. A large steam engine was installed in a new granite building either to back up or replace the main mill wheel, and a chimney towered over this extension. All this is gone now as well. Then electricity was brought in and an enormous Ransomes grain drier installed in the 1950s. All this was silent and rusting when I took over the derelict buildings in 1983 and I made a deal with a local scrap merchant Could you remove it and well call it quits. We moved from our previous workshops in the Old Brewery, Oldmeldrum and gradually restored the Mill, installing woodworking machinery, continuing to make and sell furniture and a few years later converting one corner into a house on 4 floors. The island or the site as we call it has stayed much the same; the trees providing perches and homes for the growing families of birds, from tree creepers to Sparrow Hawks. Robins and Pheasants come within talking distance and its still a surprise to see a heron languidly lifting its great sails into the skies. Now and again deer graze in the rough grass and this is a great privilege, as is the presence of badgers in the river bank even though they undermine the willows which hold the bank together. I saw a black otter slide out of the river one afternoon a few weeks ago and troutlike it sneaked along the bank to disappear. Moles, water rats, frogs and of course rabbits live here and all are welcome except the last ones. Then there are moths, dragonflies and butterflies in the warmer weather and worms and beetles, etc etc. We dont use chemicals on the ground and I have always felt that this island was a safe haven for local creatures of all kind (except rabbits which help themselves to the garden). I have built a frame to keep the birds away from our fruit and veg there are wild cherries (geans) and raspberries for them! Luscious Lips - How to Maintain Beautiful Lips Throughout the Year
By Livia Mercer The onset of winter generally means dryer skin and this is noticed most on your lips. Not only do lips have the thinnest skin on them but they have almost no sebaceous (oil) glands and absolutely no sweat glands. Add to this the fact that lips lose 3-10 times more moisture than the other parts of the face, so no wonder we have dry lips. What do most of us instinctively do when we have dry lips? Yes, we lick them. Making the problem worse, because the saliva actually eats away that precious thin skin layer we have on our lips, therefore making the lips drier, even to the point of cracking and bleeding. Avoid getting to this state at all costs. Step 1) Always, always keep your lips hydrated! Even at night. Get into the habit of applying lip cream or lip balm as part of your skincare routine. Personally I choose not to use a lip balm with an SPF at night as you don't need it but I prefer ones with vitamin A or E in them to nourish the lips. You will find that smooth, moist lips will hold lip gloss or lipstick the best. Step 2) Create the right foundation! To make sure your lips always look their best without any bleeding of the colour or simply disappeared lipstick, you need a little preparation. This works well both for lipsticks and lip glosses. A: Apply foundation all over your lips. B: With lip liner, colour in the whole lip area, not just the outline. C: It is always best to stick to your natural lip line initially. Once your natural shape is established you can, very carefully even out the lips or extend the outline. Be Cautious when doing this as there is nothing worse than seeing an unnatural lip line. Step 3) Colour in the masterpiece! A: Apply your colour starting at the centre of your lips and thinning the colour out towards the corners of your mouth. B: So you don't end up wearing your lipstick on your teeth, place your index finger in your mouth, close your lips around it and pull it out. This is a fantastic way to remove any excess colour. Make sure you wipe your finger; otherwise you will end up with the colour on your clothes. Step 4) Budge proof your lipstick! Personally I'm not a big fan of long last lipsticks as these generally are drier formulations and make my lips uncomfortably dry especially in winter. So to budge proof your lipstick, follow these steps. A: After applying your colour, blot with a tissue. B: Lightly powder your lips with a brush or a puff. C: Reapply colour. Following these steps will ensure you never again will experience dry, cracked, chapped lips. What's more your lips will look glamorous no matter what the occasion! I find that individuals drop out when they don't see results, or if they have to work way too hard for perceptible change. It is the quality of exercise, and not the quantity (duration) that brings results. Today, our lives are more hectic than ever. Making time for exercise can be difficult, if not impossible. There is good news. A mere 15 to 20 minutes a day is enough for fitness gains, as long as you are regular. This means that you do not have to spend hours sweating for great results. The following tips help you get the most value for your time and supercharge your weight loss efforts. These tips save time, but also require consistency. You will see results within a few weeks if you stick with these ideas. 1) Do exercises that use multiple muscles, called compound exercises. Consult your gym instructor/ look online for a suitable program. For example, a squat uses the front and back of your legs as well as your butt. After each squat, add an overhead shoulder press using a light dumbbell and you will hit even more muscles. 'Isolated' exercises such as biceps curls and triceps extensions are less effective. 2) Focus on large muscle groups. Working your biggest muscles burns tons of calories and will give your metabolism a good boost. These muscles are your butt, thighs, back and core that is, lower back, abdominal and oblique muscles. 3) Increase the intensity of the cardiovascular workout. This increases the calorie burning effect and cuts the time. If you walk, then jog. If you run, then try the occasional sprint. An incline on a treadmill works well too. Instead of doing forty minutes of walking, jogging or low impact aerobics go on a bike or treadmill at a high intensity for twenty minutes. If you have been working out regularly for at least a month, you could try doing intervals. 4) Try periodic boosts in intensity. Exercise at a level that to you is hard, or very hard for two minutes. Then, lower your effort - but keep moving! - For one minute. Repeat this cycle for twenty minutes. 5) Double up your exercises. Rather than resting between sets, use that time to work a different muscle group. For example, alternate one set of biceps curls with one set of triceps dips. Alternatively, do a set of seated leg extensions with a set of leg curls. These are super-sets and they nearly double the number of exercises you can do in a short time. 6) Combine strength and aerobic workouts. Before I give you the most powerful technique I have come across for enhancing your energy making it positive and "attractive", I should give you a little evidence first. So at the very least you'll try this technique before dismissing it as meditative crap. Well, that's your first clue. It is meditation related. So let me go a little over meditation. When you are running around doing your tasks of the day, your attention is divided. Or another way of saying that is 'your energy is divided'. Meditation in its most basic form is designed to clear the head of thoughts and this has the effect of balancing your energy. It's a form of 'centering'. Visualization, which I covered in earlier posts, is (what I call) an "active" form of meditation. For example; when an athlete prepares him/her self to play/take action with a visual repetition and a physical action, they are using an active meditation to get themselves into the "zone". When a person sits and practices, say Transcendental Meditation, They are doing a more 'passive' meditation. I am saying all this because the technique I am about to reveal to you is a mixture of active and passive techniques. It has scientific basis. And with regular practice can literally transform your energy and create a sort of "Charisma". Of course, we all know how easy it is for guys with charisma to get dates and even in seduction, women literally come to you making the word "seduction" almost meaningless, except as a form of social play. First, does meditation work? We've all heard how meditation helps stress, but that is not all meditation is good for. After doing the above for a couple of minutes, think of something that makes you smile. It could be an event, a fantasy, a cute baby or a puppy. Allow this smile to spread across you face. Fill your head and then travels down your neck. That's right. Imagine the smile filling your whole body. You may even begin to laugh or giggle, I do. Focus on this feeling and allow it to spread, not only through your body, but around you as well. Enjoy the joy and feel like you have "become" a big smile. As with all social groups, communication and interaction in the form of a communal gathering are integral to survival. The concept of the family gathering has been in existence for millennia. Its not a modern creation but rooted in the traditions and histories of our own particular cultures and ancestry. A family gathering, whether its a daily shared meal, a special gathering over the holidays or Sunday visits with grandparents, has an impact on the development of our family units and us as individuals within the unit. Family gatherings are the cornerstone of successful and happy families and we all need to work to include communal activities as part of our daily family routine. The gathering does not have to be a formal affair that includes every cousin, Aunt or Uncle you have. A simple meal together with your immediate family unit can provide a vehicle for communication that otherwise may not get to be expressed. Lets gather at Olivers home: Oliver, at ten, is the oldest of three children. He has a 4-year old sister and a 5-year old brother. Oliver is a warm and friendly child with a gentle nature. Never one to antagonize his peers, Oliver has become increasingly aggressive and confrontational with his peers. Over a six month period, Olivers behavior has deteriorated to the point where he became isolated from his peers his play dates have virtually disappeared and he spends most of his weekends sitting in front of his Nintendo playing by himself, rather than engaging in activities with his siblings. Both Mom and Dad noticed a change in his behavior yet attempts to discuss the matter with Oliver were met with I dont know replies. When Olivers deteriorating behavior began to translate to his school work, Mom and Dads anxiety over the welfare of their child reached critical levels and they sought help. Through individual and group sessions, it was discovered that a vital piece of the family dynamic was missing from the portrait. With a young and growing family, Dad works until 7-8 pm each evening. Mom usually has dinner on the table @ 6pm but does not dine with them, preferring to wait until her husband returns. Due to Dads hours, Dad rarely has dinner with his family. In fact, they almost never had a meal as a family. Oliver is at a critical stage in his development when he will slowly explore his independence from his family. It is important that the comfort of home and the closeness of the family continue to engage Oliver and provide him with guidance and direction as he moves into his teenage years. Olivers deteriorating behavior is a warning signal that he is reacting to a family unit that he was not particularly connected to and that he was losing interest and direction. How Visualization Can Help You Lose Weight
By Virgil Aponte Recently I read an amazing article from Personal Trainer Tony Books Avilez of The Body House. Tony's an amazing author and trainer and made some excellent points about the power of the mind when it comes to achieving your health and fitness goals. Many fitness experts fail to convey this to their clients or people that learn from them.
In fact Tony actually recommends that this is the first place you should start when beginning or continuing a health and fitness program. My favorite point is that of motivation in that many people say they don't exercise because they can't find the time. He talks about Donald Trump promising you 10 million dollars if you participate in a health and fitness regimen while still maintaining family and business obligations. In this case I don't think there is a person in the world that would not find time to exercise then. Do you? Tony goes on to say that it's not time that's a problem but motivation which made great sense. Also remember that in the short term and long term exercise will save you money and aggravation. Health costs associated with LOE (Lack of Exercise) only go up as you age and haven't taken care of yourself. With that in mind here is an excellent technique you can use right away to help you with the mental aspect of your health and fitness program: Create a vision in your mind of how you want to look or want to accomplish: For example how will you look when you lose 15 pounds or how will you look in those jeans you can't fit in anymore. And I really mean sit down, lie down or stand up somewhere, close your eyes and visualize how you will actually look. Here's a little story about how I visualized training professional athletes which was a big goal of mind for many years: I would just imagine getting off the train in the Bronx on my way to work at Yankee Stadium. If you've ever been to Yankee Stadium for a game you can feel a giant buzz of energy as soon as you get off the train because of the thousands of people there in anticipation for the days game. In this visualization there is no buzz because there are a lot less people. You see in this scenario I'm arriving at Yankee Stadium as the strength and conditioning coach and it's 9 to 10 in the morning. There aren't as many people and I'm just getting there to work with the players. I walk in to work and set up the exercise circuit I've prepared for the players and update their training logs. I think about talking to Derek Jeter and his tight hamstring and how we're are going to overcome it. I hope this gives you a picture of what I mean. You really need to think and imagine real life scenarios and they will come true. Remember your thoughts create your actions and actions create your reality. The funny thing in this visualization story is that instead of training the New York Yankees I ended up training the WNBA's New York Liberty Women's Basketball team. But all the other details were very similar. I'd get up each morning and go to Madison Square Garden or Basketball City (where we practiced) and set up strength and conditioning programs for one of the premier women's basketball teams in the world. I remember sitting in the trainer's room at Madison Square Garden chatting with All-Star and future Hall of Famer Teresa Weatherspoon about a recurring hamstring injury and how we were going to fix it. Turns out we took care of her hammy but the point here is that I really visualized all this before as I wrote earlier about Derek Jeter. Every time I think about the power of visualization I think about that very instant speaking with T-Spoon and that there is a great deal to be said about the power of your mind. So the next thing for you is to vividly think what you want to achieve and your mind will move you to that goal. There aren't as many people and I'm just getting there to work with the players. I walk in to work and set up the exercise circuit I've prepared for the players and update their training logs. I think about talking to Derek Jeter and his tight hamstring and how we're are going to overcome it. I hope this gives you a picture of what I mean. You really need to think and imagine real life scenarios and they will come true. Remember your thoughts create your actions and actions create your reality. The funny thing in this visualization story is that instead of training the New York Yankees I ended up training the WNBA's New York Liberty Women's Basketball team. But all the other details were very similar. I'd get up each morning and go to Madison Square Garden or Basketball City (where we practiced) and set up strength and conditioning programs for one of the premier women's basketball teams in the world. I remember sitting in the trainer's room at Madison Square Garden chatting with All-Star and future Hall of Famer Teresa Weatherspoon about a recurring hamstring injury and how we were going to fix it. Turns out we took care of her hammy but the point here is that I really visualized all this before as I wrote earlier about Derek Jeter. Making a New Lawn From Seed or Sod
By Philip Swindells A lawn is one of the most important features in a garden. It provides an important refreshing green foil for colorful flowering plants and a place for the family to relax and play. However, in order for it to be a success, much careful thought and preparation are necessary during its establishment. The usual methods of making a new lawn are by sowing seed or laying sod. A lawn can be created from seed in either early fall or spring. As it takes time to prepare the seed bed work should commence well beforehand. The soil for a lawn raised from seed must be firm and settled. If the area has been recently deeply cultivated, then this can take some weeks to occur naturally. Settlement through rain and the passage of time is preferable to artificial compaction with the feet or a heavy roller. With all lawns drainage is important and this should be in place before work commences. The soil should be well cultivated and free from all perennial weeds as in the short term these will be very difficult to eliminate. Annual weed seedlings are not such a problem and are easily cut out by the first passes across the lawn with the lawnmower. Rake the soil out so that it is even. It need not be level, but the surface, if it is sloping, should be in an even plane. An uneven surface will cause difficulties for the lawnmower. Once raked out the soil should be firmed but not compacted. While commercially there are machines that will do this job, the best method for the home gardener is to shuffle from side to side across the intended lawn area with the feet. Following this, rake out any uneven areas and then lightly rake the whole surface. The lawn is then ready for sowing. Choose a seed mixture to suit circumstances. One with rye grass for a hard wearing lawn, one without for a decorative lawn. If the site is shady, then select a shade mixture and always be sure any grass seed is treated with bird repellent. Instructions will be provided as to the rate to sow according to the mixture of grasses it contains. Roughly mark out the area in square yards, using the end of a stick or a bamboo cane run gently through the soil. Choose a container that will hold the quantity of seed required for each square yard and even distribution will be simple. Keep well watered until well established. Although creating a lawn from sod is a little more expensive than from seed it can be used by the family a lot sooner. If laid during spring it can be used throughout the following summer. A seed raised lawn sown during the spring is unlikely to be capable of sustaining foot traffic until late summer or early fall. A fall laid lawn established from sod should be ready for use the following spring. Soil preparations are much the same for sod as they are for seed. The key is a friable, well firmed soil free from perennial weeds. It should have been allowed to settle naturally and then shuffled across with the feet to firm the surface before raking level. It is useful both for leveling and to aid the rooting of the sod to spread a thin layer of sand over the prepared lawn area to take out any slight unevenness. There are various different grades of sod, but meadow sod should generally be avoided. Rarely is it a wise purchase. Traditional meadow sod is exactly as described, rarely weed-free and often containing undesirable grass species. Not only does it produce a mediocre lawn but unless very carefully managed will spread grass weed seeds into surrounding beds and borders. Cultivated sod will cost a little more but it is a worthwhile investment. If the lawn is for the family to enjoy and to play on, then a sod raised from a seed containing rye grass is ideal. If it is merely a decorative feature, choose one comprising a mixture of finer grasses. Sod growing is now an extensive and very professional industry, so if there are any doubts about the most suitable mixture to select, do not hesitate to contact a local sod grower for advice. Sod is lifted in strips and rolled up for transportation. Unroll and lay it as soon as it is received. Remember it is a living product and subject to rapid deterioration if not handled promptly. It is laid on the ground like a carpet, the edges being tightly abutted to one another. Lay the strips on the same principle as bricks in a wall, with the joints arranged alternatively. Firm the laid sod down gently and brush sharp sand into any cracks. Water freely until it has become well established. If watering is neglected the strips will shrink and the lawn will be ruined.
