After making and supervising over 9,000 telephone calls in a twelve-month period in one of my businesses, our calls went into the voice mail system over 81% of the time. Failing to leave a voice message and missing this many opportunities was not an option for us. Based on statistics and results from over 15,000 outbound telephone calls, here are the critical issues to consider if you want voice mail to work for you: 1. Work from a script Assume that you will get voice mail and be prepared. You can not wing it and stumble aimlessly through a call. After practicing it a few times, your presentation will sound natural. 2. Your message must be brief 30 seconds is an absolute maximum. In our initial campaign, our messages were about 60 seconds in length and our call-backs were pathetic. Once we shortened the call to 30 seconds, our call-backs increased significantly. 3. Your message must be focused When you prepare your script, focus on the single most important benefit you offer your prospects. If time permits, you can mention one or two more key points as you close the call, but dont exceed your 30 second time limit. 4. Be professional, enthusiastic and confident A professional approach will help get your prospects attention, and your enthusiasm and confidence will move him along in the sales cycle. Seems like common sense doesnt it? But common sense isnt always common practice. 5. Leave a call-to-action If youre not prepared to leave a call-to-action, then dont make the call. Leaving a generic message or calling to say hi is simply a social visit and not part of the lead generation or sales process. Ask for a return call, a visit to your web site, preview a brochure mailed to them, whatever it is you called for in the first place. But ask them to do something. By Mathews Verghese Patent is one of the types of Intellectual Property rights which exist. It grants protection of the patented article to the inventor for a certain period of time. Thus monopoly of production of that invention lies with the patent holder. The purpose of this system is to encourage inventions by promoting their protection and utilization. Under the system Patents ensure property rights for the invention for which patent have been granted. Most of the jurisprudence relating to software patents emanates from the United States which is considered as the cradle of software patents. It began with the landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in Diamond v. Diehr which ordered the patent office to grant patent on an invention even though a computer software was utilized in it. In a later decision of In Re Alapat No 92-1381(Fed. Cir. July 29,1994) clarified the position further by allowing the patenting of inventions that can be implemented in either hardware or software, provided the patent application establishes the invention as something more than a mere mathematical formula. The first software patent ever granted is probably a patent for a computer having a slow and quick access storage, when programmed to solve a linear programming problem by an iterative algorithm. applied for in 1962 by British Petroleum Company. The Patent relates to solving simultaneous linear equations. In recent times a raging controversy has been there in India as to whether software programmes should be granted Patent Protection or not. But on close perusal of the section it is clearly seen that computer programmes per se would not be given protection. But a controversy nevertheless existed and came to an end only when the section in question was removed by the Patent Amendment Act, 2005. Now there are two sides to this problem. On one side allowing Patent protection over any kind of computation seriously harms and hampers the creativity, productivity and freedom of software developers while writing code. The key advantage in using computer programs is that logic can be re-written without rewriting or physically modifying hardware. Description This herb has a woody root that produces a round, grooved, branched stem. The coarse-toothed lower leaves are round to cordate with long petioles. The upper leaves are feathery, delicate, and pinnately divided. Leaflets may be toothed or toothless. The small flowers are white to yellowish white with petals that are held in compound umbels. The brown fruit is ovate, downy, flattened, and 1/8 inch long. Plant type and hardiness: Annual; hardiness zones are not applicable to annuals. Height and width Height 18 to 24 inches; width about 12 inches. Light and soil Full sun; light, dry, well-drained soil with a pH of 6. Pests and diseases None noted. Cultivation: This spindly plant needs protection from winds and plenty of sunshine to promote healthy growth. Its fragile, tender seedlings do not transplant well. Add fertilizer only if the soil is extremely poor, and add lime if the pH is very acidic. Water regularly in hot, dry weather, preferably in late afternoon or evening to avoid scorching the plant. Companion planting: Anise seed will germinate more rapidly if sown near coriander. It has been shown that the presence of coriander improves the actual seed formation of the anise plant. Propagation method: Seeds sown directly into the ground. Bloom time and color July to August; white to yellowish white. Harvesting: After the flower umbels have become heavy with ripe brown seeds, cut the heads off before they drop. Place them in a single layer on a paper towel or plate in a dry place. If possible, expose to direct sunlight to allow the seeds to completely dry out. When the seeds are crisp and dry, rub between palms to separate the seed from the hull, sieve to remove seeds from the husks, and store in airtight containers. Herbal uses Aromatic, culinary, and medicinal: Anise may be used for its aromatic qualities in oil and potpourris. Crushed seeds are added to sachets.
