Growing Grass Under Trees

By Paul Burke Grass growing in the shade: Trees are an integral part of any homeowners landscape. One of the most commonly asked questions is " why isn't my grass looking as good under my trees as in the rest of the lawn?" The answer is quite simple. Most grass types prefer open sunlight and do not grow well in the shade. All grass types require sunlight to produce food through the photosynthesis process. Grass also competes with the trees for the moisture and nutrients in the soil. Trees also cause less air movement so there is a greater chance for disease to occur. Shade tolerant grasses: If you are determined to grow grass under and around trees you need to use a shade tolerant grass. In our area Fine Fescue is your best bet. However once again you are fighting the shade issue. Fine Fescue requires at least a 50% exposure to sunlight to thrive. This sunlight does not need to be direct as shifting intermittent from the sun as it travels through its day is fine. Grass under spruce and pine: As many homeowners have noticed grass growing under these conifers do even worse than under most deciduous trees. Along with the shade, lack of moisture, less nutrients and less air movement, these trees have an extra trick up their sleeves. When these trees drop their needles (needle cast) the needles cause the soil around the tree to increase in acidity. Once again it is just another form of defense trees will use to compete with other plant life. Growing grass in the shade: The number one thing you must do to grow grass in the shade is to use a shade tolerant grass such as Fine Fescue. Removing lower branches and a light pruning of the inner growth allows more sunlight to penetrate the lawn below. If you are mowing under the trees, raise the mower blade 1 level to leave more leaf blade to increase the grass plants chance at photosynthesis. These areas also require more watering during dry spells to compensate for the amount the trees will be using at this time. Light fertilization is recommended in these areas as generally the grass is under stress for most of the year. Paul is a Certified Pesticide Applicator in the province of Alberta, Canada. He has over 15 years experience in the lawn care industry. For more lawn care information, please visit http://www.fairyring.ca. Saving Money with Free Online Text Messaging

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tom_T]Tom T As time goes on, we always wonder when prices are going to go up instead of down. Well, the fact is that they will never go down, it will always be an up-hill battle. Ever since the world has got more aggressive on the marketing side of things, the Internet has helped exposed many things we never thought wed see or hear about. One of these things is money saving opportunities. I dont know about you but every time I go to the mailbox each month, I find that horrific cell phone bill. Im sure weve all thought to ourselves, Wow, I used this many minutes or I sent that many text messages? Yes, it can be frustrating but Ive found many ways to save on your cell phone bill. Text messages usually only cost you about five to ten cents a message depending on your carrier. It gets a little bit more expensive if you want to send a picture message. Sure, you say five to ten cents is a little bit, but think about it, ten messages is one dollar. One hundred is ten bucks and so forth. Sure, you can buy the bulk packages but what if you dont use all of them or you dont use any at all? The cell phone world is a confusing one. Instead of text messaging from your cell phone, a few sites have popped up on the web where they allow you to pop in someones cell phone number, along with your message and they will receive the text message you type out to them. Not only do you not have to use the numbers to make your sentence, you will save the hassle from paying that lousy five cents. Where can I find this nifty website? One of my favorite website is textyourbuddy.com. They dont force you to register and their privacy policy states that they dont store any information, including the cell phone number. Beware because some sites will store the number and sell it to third parties. We dont want our friends getting junk mail. I think I would rather pay off the five cents. Text messaging is one of the few things we can save from. Another is making actual calls. Skype has recently stated that they are offering free calls to the United States. All you need to do is download their free software at skype.com and you can start calling your friends for free. Now, the only downfall on this one is you cant call your friend from the grocery store or movie theatre. Well, thats unless you bring a portable laptop with WiFi. The Internet can be a great thing if you research but again it gets so much bad press in the media. Lets look at the bright side of things every once in a while and help each other save money. Tick Bites

By Josh Riverside Ticks can cause a great deal of harm to people and pets. Ticks infest areas with thick vegetation, and individuals and animals in these areas face the risk of tick bites. Tick bites occur when ticks attach themselves to a host. In humans, tick bites can cause diseases such as Lyme disease, Colorado tick fever, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tularemia, and tick paralysis. Ticks vary in size and color; based on these factors, some ticks are easily noticeable while others are not. If a tick simply crawls on the skin, no disease or infection will be transmitted. Diseases may be transmitted if a tick attaches itself to a host and feeds on the host. As there is no pain immediately after a tick bite, one may not notice the tick. Therefore, it is essential for individuals to carefully examine themselves, children, and pets if they have been to woods, parks, and other tick-prone areas. If a tick is found attached to the skin, it must be carefully removed with tweezers, and the bitten area and the tweezers must be cleaned with antiseptic after tick removal. Individuals do not need to call a doctor immediately after a tick bite. However, the bitten area must be observed for a month for signs of rash and swelling. In addition, occurrence of pain, fever, weakness, and respiratory problems following a tick bite may be signs of tick-borne disease. If these develop, a doctor needs to be consulted. Tick bites can be prevented by taking certain precautions. Pets and their environments should be treated with tick-killing pesticides, and they should be examined daily, especially if they are in tick-infested regions. Cats and dogs can also be made to wear tick collars. Individuals should wear light-colored clothes while gardening and walking in the woods. Wearing a hat, socks, enclosed shoes, long trousers, full shirt, and gloves is recommended. Clothes need to be sprayed with repellent before being worn. As tick bites can be dangerous, they need to be prevented. Awareness and appropriate action can protect both people and pets from ticks. Ticks provides detailed information on Ticks, Tick Bites, Deer Ticks, Dog Ticks and more. Ticks is affiliated with Mosquito Magnets. Ancient Evolution Theory And Infinite With Finite Paradox In Hinduism

By Thanaseelan Vengadasalam Hinduism is factually the world's oldest religion and thus, there is a number of misconceptions on it. Probably one of the most famous misconceptions, even within Hindus, is that they are required to worship idols. The truth is Hindus are asked not to worship idols, but worship God in the form of idols. With so many idols and faces of the Almighty, people tend to easily get confused between God and idols. The purpose of worhsipping God through idols is to facilitate contemplation of the infinite with our finite capabilities. Reaching the infinite with finite capabilities is one of the paradoxes in Hinduism. To digress slightly, most paradoxes make us think and the simple reason is that they contain the universal truth in them. Note "simple reason" and "universal truth", even that is a paradox I just thought of. There is an interesting thought on how evolutionary is being depicted through the ten incarnations of the Hindu Lord Maha Vishnu. This is what it is believed to be. Matsya(fish) to Kurma(tortoise-amphibian) to Varaha(boar) to Narasimha(half-man/half lion) to Vamana(dwarfed man-with stunted growth) to Parasurama(axe wielding primitive man) to Rama(justly king-epitome of goodness) to Krishna(worldly wise-machiavellian) to Buddha(enlightened one) to ? The last incarnation is believed to be Kalki Avatar. The incarnation He takes to destroy the world which is equivalent to that of what other religions believe to be "judgement day". There is another belief of how Lord Surya's (Sun) had seven chariots which correspond to the seven colours of the spectrum. It is fascinating that our forefathers knew well about science which we know of today. In the Golden and Silver Ages, some civilisations were known to have used technology more advanced than ours. Just imagine, people in those days used technology greater than that of computer's. - Thanaseelan, visit his profile at http://www2.blogger.com/profile/11320861502208126526 and main blog at http://www.worthofwordplay.blogspot.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Thanaseelan_Vengadasalam http://EzineArticles.com/?Ancient-Evolution-Theory-And-Infinite-With-Finite-Paradox-In-Hinduism&id=415978 hard money lenders that do business in connecticut

Easy Ways To Maintain Your Blood Glucose Levels

By Dennis Driscoll Stabilizing Your Blood Sugar
One of the best ways to help stabilize your Blood sugar is a simple process called portion control. I myself have tendency to eat to fast. The problem with eating too fast is simple, you eat too much. I will elaborate, we all get an emotional high from eating and sometimes eat so fast causing us to over eat. Slow Down
The next time you eat try this, chew your food and enjoy the taste. Make an effort, and try to slow down while eating. Most people are likely to overeat. There is just not time to let our stomachs get full. Hold Off For That Second Helping
Another way to challenge yourself is this, instead of reaching for that second plate as soon as your first plate is gone, wait just 10 minutes. I will bet that by waiting it will be much easier to refuse that second helping. Just think what 10 minutes could do for your overall health, blood sugar and weight. Portions Size
If you can get through just a few days or a week of practicing the above mentioned tips you are on your way, now try adjusting your portions of food intake. Instead of filling your plate up,try smaller portions. Don't be to drastic the first few days. Try reducing portion size a little bit each day. There is no need to measure or weigh your food, use your eye site. It's that simple! The best way to loose weight and keep your blood sugar down at the same time is by eating smaller portions. Give yourself time this will work. If you happen to overeat at one meal don't beat yourself up just focus more the next time you eat. Eat Frequently
I have analyzed my eating patterns and discovered that when I wait to long to eat and find myself starving, this is the time that I will most likely overeat. The best way to not do this is simple eat more often, and eat smaller meals. If you plan on eating every 3 hours or so you will see how just an apple and a half sandwich will keep you full to the next meal. Waiting 4-6 hours between meals, you will eat more and your body will suffer for it. It is much easier for your body breakdown smaller portions and process the sugar that to stuff yourself. Remember being diabetic your body cannot process extra sugar like most people.
So smaller meals= less sugar in your blood. Dennis Driscoll lives in Northern Michigan and is the leading contributor of Free Diabetes Supplies Blog

Bridal Show Do's and Don'ts - What You Need To Know Before Attending Your First Bridal Show

By Rob Alberti OK, here is an amazing stat. Did you know that 70% of all of the engagements that happen each year will happen on Christmas/New Year's/ Valentine's Day? I don't know if the gentlemen are just lacking for originality, or if the romance of the season is just too good to pass up? What is the result of the 70%??? Thousands of newly (excited) engaged brides flood the bridal show market each year, which is why, in New England, we have these shows from January - March. A bridal show is the ultimate way to shop for wedding services. Unlike a magazine or web site, you can see, touch, sample, and question everything wedding related at these events! Here are a few tips of what to look for and what NOT to look for in a bridal show vendor. Now first and foremost, please remember that the vendors have paid to be here! They can pay up to $1500 for a small booth just to have the chance to fight the other vendors to romance your business. This fierce competition can lead to less than desirable behavior at times. These rare moments can make some bridal show attendees shy and unwilling to talk with the vendors. Big mistake! Rule # 1: Talk with the vendors! The best way to find out whether or not a service is right for you is to always have a conversation. You will determine, usually in the first few minutes, whether a service is right for you. If a vendor is pushy or will not take NO for an answer, put down the literature and say, "Thank you for your time." Then move on. I feel that if a vendor is a "Hard Sell," they must be desperate for work. If they are that desperate, maybe they are not that busy? If they are not that busy, maybe they are just not very good at what they do? Just my theory... Rule # 2: Look beyond the candy! Some vendors use the craziest things to lure you into their booth. I have seen things like cookies, dancing girls, water dispensers, and Hummers. Ask yourself, what does any of this have to do with the service the vendor is providing? Chances are that if the vendor has the need for gimmicks to get you into the booth, the substance of the product may be lacking? Rule # 3: Trust the quality of the paperwork. This area might be the second best way to evaluate a vendor, after speaking with them one on one, of course. If you receive a handout that has been made on a home computer, if the handout looks and feels CHEAP, or if it lacks information, then usually the service lacks as well. When you dump all of the contents of your bridal show bag onto your kitchen table, look for the paperwork that is of quality. If it is well prepared, informative, and well presented, then chances are the service vendor puts the same care into their customers as they put into their paperwork. Rule # 4: Beware the Bridal show specials! People love a deal. If you really think you are getting a deal at a bridal show, think again. Many "show specials" are fake. You think you are getting a deal, so you book. In reality, the vendor is charging you the same as if you meet then outside the show. They raise the normal rate for the show to make the "Show special" look that much more attractive. Oldest trick in the book! The deals you can get are the ones you don't want. Some vendors will get into quoting wars with other vendors at the show. YES, you might be able to beat down a vendor if you play them against another service provider at the show, but this is a sign of desperateness and you might not like the service you have after the smoke clears. Some vendors will also give you the lowest level of service possible, if you beat them down on price. "Small price = Small service. Did anyone ever hear the phrase, "You get what you pay for?" If a vendor does not negotiate price, that is usually the sure sign of a stable, quality, reputable business. Watch out for Bridal show prize boxes! They are usually a way for the vendor to market you after the show. You actually win nothing except a mail box full of junk literature and phone solicitation. Don't fall for gimmicks. Look for substance. Rule # 5: If it looks and sounds too good to be true, usually it is too good to be true. I would encourage any bride-to-be to get out and enjoy a bridal show. It is a big part of the experience of getting married. Just be careful and realistic when speaking with vendors. Best wishes to all those that are getting married. Hope to see you at the next bridal show. Dating & Religious Beliefs

By Susan Dunn Youre dating and your religious beliefs are different. How much difference does this make? The answer is: Another persons religious beliefs are important to you to the degree they re important to you.
This may sound like begging the question, but its an important thing to get . Assuming youre looking for marriage, you need to make a must have and a cant stand list. If certain religious beliefs go into either group, pay attention to them, because you won t be happy if they arent there (or are and shouldnt be) and the relationship wont work in the long run. Begging the question is what Zen is all about. The koan can mean youre asking a question no one knows the answer to, or that you dont need an answer to, or you know the answer as well as anyone, you just dont know it by reason (which is limited). In the case of religious beliefs, the emotionally intelligent thing to do is to figure out what you want (work with a coach for clarity; its worth it) and then experience the person. Do you mean adherence to a certain set of principals as espoused by a certain faith, such as being Methodist, or Buddhist? Do you need someone to agree with every word you say about it? Or do you believe in certain spiritual principals which could be compatible with various faiths or someone who doesnt attend church at all? Does it matter to you more how the person argues their faith verbally, or how they live it in their daily actions and behaviors? Some religions require only faith; others require certain actions. At the same time, some people follow their faith, and others do not. Apply your emotional intelligence competencies as you date. 1. ZEN: A tree that is unbending is easily broken. Lao Tzu
EQ COMPETENCY: FLEXIBILITY Use all your brains. You must feel how you feel around this person (see point number 2) and also think about what it is youre after at the deepest and broadest level so that you can have the flexibility to deal with another imperfect, not entirely predictable human being. 2. ZEN: Only the supremely wise and the abysmally ignorant do not change. Confucius
EQ COMPETENCY: Understanding of people. You have to allow for the fact that the individual may change. Few people make extreme changes in their core being and basic operating principals, but many of us make changes and adjustments in behaviors and thoughts. Get to know the person well enough so you have a sense of their core. 3. ZEN: If you are too excited by joy, later you will have to cry. Tibetan saying.
EQ COMPETENCY: Reality-testing. Roughly translated this means that it s best to go slow and find a person with a modulated response to you. Don t get so excited you arent paying attention. Even soul-mates may disagree on how to load the dishwasher. How can you expect exact alignment in the articulation of a religious belief? Therefore, number 4. 4. ZEN: We think in generalities but we live in detail. Alfred North Whitehead
EQ COMPETENCY: Impulse control Take the time to get to know the person in little and daily ways. Someone can talk one way and act another. They can say they don t believe in abusing animals (or anything else) and still do it. Only time will tell. 5. ZEN: Think with the whole body. Taisen Deshimaru
EQ COMPETENCY: Intuition Oddly enough, thinking with the whole body is what intuition is about. The quickest and surest way to know whether it s a fit is to use your intuition (gut feeling, instincts). How do you know your gut feeling? From your gut! Your body sends you physiological messages. Can you completely relax with this person? If so, there is deep trust, the foundation of lasting relationships. 6. ZEN: We do not want churches because they will teach us to quarrel about God. Chief Joseph
EQ COMPETENCY: Constructive discontent. When there are disagreements, figure out what you re really arguing about. If it s just semantics, it s just semantics.
It was in vogue, for instance, in the Renaissance to debate how many angels would fit on the head of a pin. This is hardly likely to play itself out in how the person lives their life. 7. ZEN: A mind all logic is like a knife all blade. It makes the hand bleed that uses it. Rabindranath Tagore
EQ COMPETENCY: Integrated self. The interface between intellect and
emotions. Someone who engages in intellectual repartee about matters of the heart hasnt got it together, and you don t need to get-together with them. Wouldn t you rather be loved than understood, if it came to that (and it will)? 8. ZEN: Beware, as they say, of mistaking the finger for the moon when you re pointing at it. John Cage
EQ COMPETENCY: Intentionality. Date the person long enough to determine that when they talk about their religious beliefs, they live by them. In other words, they re not just repeating something they memorized, or just saying what they think you want to hear. Someone deeply in that delicious falling-in-love stage will do this. Haven t you? 9. ZEN: The first sign of your becoming religious is that you are becoming cheerful. Swami Vivekananda
EQ COMPETENCY: Positive attitude, optimism. IF you believe this is the test of being religious, then Swami Vivekananda is the man for you. If you prefer a person with a positive attitude, as I do, and it comes with religious belief, better yet. (Studies show marriages are happiest when the number of positive comments about self, other and relationship is 3x the number of negative comments.) 10. ZEN: When a dog runs at you, whistle for him. Henry David Thoreau
EQ COMPETENCY: Common sense! When it feels right and good, go for it! Ultimately its difficult to live with someone who doesnt have your same values and priorities. SHAWNA discovered this when dating a man outside her faith. He loved her and was willing to convert, attending classes and services with her. She was troubled that even so, he didnt believe what she did. Growing up with a certain faith engrains it at a level that can rarely be approached when its learned later in life. This may or may not be unsurmountable. In SHAWNAs case it was. She couldnt feel he had, or ever would have, the same beliefs as she did. TOMAS, on the other hand, fell in love with someone outside his faith, from another culture, and more than 10 years younger. Still, he said, were two peas in a pod. I could care less if she goes to a synagogue and I dont. SAMIA married someone she met at her mosque, but problems began to spring up immediately. I assumed too much, she said. I thought we felt the same way about things, but it didnt live out the way I thought it would. I wish Id given it more time. Its hard to think when you re that much in love. In their case, their religious beliefs, in words, were a match, but they werent lived out in ways that were compatible. P.S. If you come from different faith backgrounds and plan to have children, work this one out ahead of time. It can be a bigee when the time comes. Heartburn Treatment And Prevention - The Best Solutions!

By Kevin Peterson If you are looking for the best treatment and prevention for your
heartburn, you are reading the right article. We lead you onto the
right path to prevent and treat your heartburn. You may find many heartburn treatments all over the Internet. Even
then, lots of people are choosing home remedies as a
substitute for
the conventional medicines because these have several side effects.
Home remedies are natural. Natural ingredients play a very important role in home remedies. They
consist of herbs, minerals, seeds and other natural
ingredients. This is a very good approach to treat
and prevent your heartburn. Using plenty of whole grains, fresh
vegetables and a few fruits will certainly help you treat and
prevent heartburn. Cinnamon, ginger, almonds, peppermint and fruits like banana are
invaluable sources of a natural home remedy to prevent and treat
heartburn. If you want to prevent heartburn successfully, first know that
heartburn is an eating disorder. You yourself create your heartburn
problem
if you don't take care of your eating habits. Eating
disorders severely affect your upper digestive system and as
a result,
you feel heartburn. As the problem is with the digestive system, your eating habits are
very important. You can prevent and treat your heartburn completely if
you mend your food habits and lifestyle. Find below some Dos and Don'ts, which help you
prevent your heartburn.
Don't take foods and beverages that can trigger reflux of
stomach
contents. Example coffee, tea, cola drinks, carbonated
beverages,
citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes and tomato sauces,
chocolate,
spicy and fatty foods. Don't drink alcohol. It also relaxes your lower esophageal
sphincter, allowing stomach contents into the esophagus and
drives your stomach to produce more acid. Eat at least 2-3 hours before you go to bed. Lying down
with a full stomach can cause stomach contents to press harder
against the LES increasing the chances of reflux. If you can, eat smaller and more frequent meals. A full
stomach
can put extra pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter (LES)
causing the acid reflux into your esophagus. Don't smoke. The chemicals in cigarette weaken the LES as
they pass from the lungs into the blood. Elevate your head a few inches with an extra
pillow while you
sleep. Lying down flat presses the stomach's contents against
the
LES. With the head higher than the stomach, gravity helps
reduce
this pressure.
Stick to these Dos and Don'ts and prevent heartburn from
making you restless and sleepless.

If none of these natural and herbal heartburn remedies work then you
can also treat your heartburn with Antacids made of calcium
carbonate, aluminum and magnesium. They neutralize your stomach
acid. Drugs like Cimetidine, Ranitidine, Nizatidine and
Famstidine, which are known as H2 blockers, provide relief from the
heartburn by suppressing acid production in your stomach. Did You Know That You Can Finally Cure Persistent Heartburn And Become Symptom
